Yayasan MR DIY makes food pack contributions to 2,000 university undergraduates

KUALA LUMPUR, 23 January 2024— It’s certainly a relief for more than 2,000 university undergraduates as their essential meals are stocked, all thanks to Yayasan MR D.I.Y..

Yayasan MR D.I.Y., the philanthropic arm of the largest home improvement retailer in Malaysia, MR D.I.Y. Group [M] Berhad [MR D.I.Y.], reached out to four universities in Klang Valley and distributed food packs under its #DIY4Universiti programme in ‘University Foodbank’ initiative.

Over 2,000 food packs inclusive of instant noodles and porridge, tea bags, and cream crackers were distributed to the undergraduates of Universiti Teknologi Mara [UiTM] Shah Alam, Universiti Putra Malaysia [UPM], Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology [TAR UMT], and Universiti Tenaga Nasional [UNITEN].

Commenting on the initiative, Yayasan MR. D.I.Y.’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zaleha Mohd Mydin said, “We recognise the month-end financial burden often experienced by the undergraduates. This is why we are conducting the ‘University Foodbank’ initiative to alleviate food insecurity amongst them. As a foundation, Yayasan MR D.I.Y.’s goal is to support their educational journey and contribute to their overall well-being, so our future leaders can focus more effectively on their academic pursuits. We hope other companies or organisations will support this excellent initiative because together we can make a real difference.”

Zaleha thanked the participating institutions, for their collaborative efforts and for ensuring seamless food pack distribution to the undergraduates.

The initiative also saw RM3.6 million in cash via e-wallet distributed to 12,000 undergraduates of one of the local universities in the country.
