Saudia’s Fleet Expansion and Modernisation: Pioneering the Future of Air Travel

Singapore, 17 December 2024 – Saudia, the national flag carrier of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is set to reshape the future of air travel with its fleet expansion and modernisation initiatives. The airline, a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals, is poised to transform the aviation landscape by introducing state-of-the-art aircraft and cutting-edge passenger experiences.

Expanding the Fleet to Connect the World to Saudi Arabia

In a landmark agreement with Boeing, Saudia has confirmed an order of 49 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Comprising the 787-9 and 787-10 models, these aeroplanes will enhance the airline’s global operations with extended range and sustainability. They are designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 25% compared to the previous generation of aircraft.

This agreement aligns with the Kingdom’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy, fostering the global carrier’s commitment to bring the world closer to Saudi Arabia. The additional aircraft complements Saudia’s current fleet of over 50 Boeing aeroplanes and will increase the airlines’ long-haul capacity. This strategic move enables the airline to meet the growing demand for travel to the Kingdom.

Moreover, the brand’s ongoing partnership with Airbus adds 54 A321neo aircraft to its fleet. These modern planes boast advanced fuel efficiency, spacious cabins, and passenger-centric amenities, offering an extraordinary onboard experience while aligning with the airline’s sustainability initiatives.

Modernising for a World-Class Passenger Experience

Saudia’s modernisation programme ensures its guests enjoy unparalleled comfort and innovation. Collaborating with Panasonic Avionics, the airline will retrofit 30 widebody aircraft with the next-generation Astrova In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) system. Astrova features industry-leading 4K OLED screens, Bluetooth audio, and USB-C power ports for seamless device integration, delivering a home-like entertainment environment.

As part of its broader fleet upgrade, Saudia has signed a contract with Collins Aerospace to introduce newly designed seats on its upcoming Boeing 787 fleet, set to begin delivery in early 2026. The airline will also retrofit the interiors of its current Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 fleets, starting from late 2025 with completion expected by late 2027. This includes the installation of private business class suites across Saudia’s wide-body aircraft, ensuring a luxurious and comfortable journey for passengers. The new seating arrangements are designed to enhance functionality and aesthetics, elevating Saudia’s service offering while reflecting the brand’s commitment to guest satisfaction.

High-speed in-flight connectivity will keep passengers effortlessly connected, enabling activities like streaming, video calls, and browsing with ease. To further elevate the guest experience, Saudia’s innovative AI-powered “Travel Companion” offers personalised support at every stage – from tailored booking recommendations and dining suggestions to curated destination guides; this intelligent assistant ensures a smooth and engaging journey. Post-flight, it streamlines feedback, manages frequent flyer accounts, and provides exclusive offers, reflecting the national carrier’s commitment to convenience and cutting-edge innovation.

Supporting Local Growth and Creating Opportunities

As part of its commitment to the Kingdom’s economic development, Saudia continues to prioritise localisation and job creation. Through its subsidiary, Saudia Technic, the airline will enhance maintenance capabilities for its expanded fleet. It will also support the fleet’s advanced technologies while creating jobs and upskilling Saudi talent in line with Vision 2030.

Vision 2030: Transforming Saudi Arabia into a Global Aviation Hub

The fleet expansion and modernisation efforts embody the global carrier’s role in achieving Vision 2030 objectives. By increasing guest capacity to 330 million annually and expanding its network to 250 destinations, the airline will drive tourism, connect the Kingdom to the world, and support the growth of religious pilgrimages.

Saudia’s efforts in fleet expansion and modernisation underscore its commitment to elevating air travel and advancing the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals. By enhancing connectivity, driving innovation, and fostering sustainability, the carrier aims to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s global aviation presence and contribute to its economic growth.

Saudia’s bold initiatives reflect its commitment to operational excellence, innovation, and sustainability; securing its position as a global leader in the aviation industry.
