Snapchat is leveraging the power of AR and launching a Lensathon across SEA in partnership with Dicoding with a focus on skilling and encouraging participation of young women in AR.
The participants will use Lens Studio – Snap’s free desktop app – to create and design their own AR experiences. Snapchat will hold three Lens Studio workshops in Indonesia (Bahasa), Singapore (Eng), and Malaysia (Melayu) and teach participants to create lenses with the theme of “International Women’s Day.” These workshops will be conducted by women creators from Snapchat Lens Network namely Danielle Grace (ID and SG) and Yong Nurain Sofia Binti Khairulhiddard (MY)
All participants submitting valid lenses will stand a chance to join Snap’s Lens Studio Community and pursue their passion for AR. The Lens Studio workshop for Malaysia will be taking place on Saturday, 5 March at 10am (MYT). Students who are interested in attending the session can join at: https://meet.google.com/xei-buqp-kix.
“Our approach to AR is rooted in storytelling and creativity as the entry points to introduce this new technology to broad audiences. We have greatly evolved AR not only for entertainment, but also utility use-cases like education, commerce etc. Our Women’s Day powered Lensathon hopes to inspire and upskill women across the region to bring their creativity and passion to life.” said Anubhav Nayyar, Director of Market Development SEA at Snap.
Snapchat has been conducting multiple Lens Studio workshops across SEA to help students and youth create shared experiences and express their ideas in compelling ways. In 2021, over 11,000 students were trained via the Lens Studio workshops to teach AR to students from different schools and colleges across SEA.
Snap will also be leveraging the power of AR by launching a series of special, #BreakTheBias AR lenses, and hyperlocal geofilters for Women’s Day, in alignment with the global women’s day theme.
