KUALA LUMPUR, 16 January 2023 – 2023 is off to a great start for Malaysian home improvement retailer MR D.I.Y. Group [M] Berhad [MR D.I.Y.].
The retailer has been named ‘Putra Enterprising Brand of the Year’, one of the coveted awards in the recently-concluded Putra Brand Awards 2022 edition. This is the second year running that MR D.I.Y. has been accorded a Putra Brand Award; in 2021, the retailer took Gold in the award’s retail category.
The Putra Brand Awards are unique in that they are based on the people’s choice — the awards invite members of the public to cast their votes for their favourite brands in various categories. The consumers’ responses are then captured directly using a robust consumer research methodology by Ipsos, a global leader in market research. This year’s awards were announced and presented on 13 January 2023 at the One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya.
In 2022, over 6,000 consumers submitted 25,000 responses to ascertain which brands emerged leaders in their respective categories. The ‘Putra Enterprising Brand of the Year’ was one of the coveted awards of the evening. It reflects the recipient’s outstanding achievements in developing a brand that has made strong inroads into the international market through product or service innovation, comprehensive marketing, and communications programmes, as well as through strong CSR commitments.

The Putra Brand Awards is the only brand award in the country endorsed by MATRADE and supported by the Malaysian Advertisers Association (MAA), the Media Specialists Association (MSA), and the Malaysian Digital Association (MDA). Launched in 2010 by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia (4As) in association with Malaysia’s Most Valuable Brands (MMVB), the Putra Brand Awards recognises brand building as an integral business investment, measured by consumer preference.
MR D.I.Y. received a number of awards in 2022, including the Regional Award as the ‘Top Home Improvement Retail Brand” across four markets in the World Branding Awards, Deloitte Private’s Best Managed Companies” and Frost & Sullivan’s “2022 Company of the Year in the Home Improvement Retail Industry”, the latter two for the second year running. The retailer was also named the “Most Outstanding Company – Consumer Discretionary Sector” in ASIAMONEY “Asia’s Outstanding Companies Poll 2022”, and received its first ESG-related award, as Best Newcomer in the Equities Category, at the inaugural The Edge ESG Awards 2022.
