Grab Helps to Drive Further Support for Malaysia’s Local Heroes This Chinese New Year

Celebrating the various festivals in Malaysia is a core value and meaningful practice for Malaysians of all races. And with Chinese New Year fast approaching, Grab wants to ensure that Malaysians will continue to have an auspicious and prosperous year of the Ox, while supporting the many businesses who truly embody the resilient and hardworking spirit of this zodiac sign.

Therefore, in the spirit of ushering in a prosperous year for all, Grab is focusing its efforts on driving further demand for small and local businesses, and making users’ needs even more affordable and accessible through various promotions and initiatives, just in time for the celebration.

As Grab believes that everyone plays a vital role in helping the community get through these troubling times, here are some of the ways Malaysians can still usher in a prosperous new year, the new normal way, while supporting small and local businesses.

  1. More than 100 types of Yee Sang on GrabFood

‘Lou Sang’ is a uniquely Malaysian Chinese practice that is done to symbolically raise one’s fortunes during the year. This year, GrabFood is making Yee Sang even more accessible with over 100 varieties to choose from. So, no matter where you are and how small a group you’re looking to cater for, you can rest assured that your fortunes will continue to rise with Yee Sang delivered straight to your doorstep. And if you’re looking to mix things up – we’ve even got smaller and independent restaurants offering their unique take on the Chinese New Year staple too!

  1. Spreading prosperity, the new normal way.

With everyone embracing social distancing, the Chinese New Year’s tradition of distributing “ang pau” and gift giving will be a little different. But that doesn’t mean that it has to be any less joyful!

In conjunction with the season, Grab has introduced special edition CNY gift cards (for Food, Mart or Ride) with a variety of fun designs and GrabExpress subscription packs for those who are looking to surprise their loved ones. In addition, Malaysians can also still celebrate the timeless traditions of the season by sending “ang pau”  to their loved ones via GrabPay.

  1. Affordable Chinese New Year essentials
To help ensure customers get all their Chinese New Year necessities just in time for the season, Grab is also making Chinese New Year shopping more affordable and convenient. Grab users can enjoy savings of up to 30% across Grab’s services on their Chinese New Year necessities such as CNY fashion from Zalora when they pay with GrabPay, groceries from HeroMarket and cookies from Milkyway on GrabMart, and even cleaning services before the start of the new year to drive away bad luck on Clean & Fix.

On the efforts, Hassan Alsagoff, Country Marketing Head of Grab Malaysia concluded “We hope these efforts will help Malaysians continue to celebrate the festivities while driving further demand to boost our partners’ livelihoods, both businesses and our delivery network. With the pandemic still looming over our nation, it is even more vital now to ensure that our efforts are anchored on helping Malaysia rebuild herself and we look forward to introducing further initiatives moving forward that will support all Malaysians through this challenging time.”
