Kuala Lumpur, 20 March 2024 – Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or the “Exchange”) today organised its annual Rewang Ramadan 2024 event at PPR Seri Alam, Kuala Lumpur, as part of its corporate social responsibility (“CSR”) initiative. For the first time, this year’s Rewang Ramadan saw the Exchange’s employee volunteers, also known as Bursa VIBE1 volunteers, joining hands with the residents of public housing project (“PPR”) Seri Alam to prepare and distribute ‘Bubur Lambuk’ – a traditional dish synonymous with the fasting month.
The third edition2 of Bursa Malaysia’s annual Ramadan CSR program, conducted together with the PPR residents, and supported by MyFundAction and Fraser & Neave Holdings Berhad (“F&N”), embodies the spirit of community engagement and support with a range of contributions, including:
- 1,600 servings of ‘bubur lambuk’ packed in compostable containers contributed by Circlepac PLT;
- 1,600 units of food bags containing basic grocery items sponsored by F&N;
- 100 bags of 5 kg rice amounting to 500 kg provided by Padiberas Nasional Berhad (“BERNAS”); and
- 10 bags of compost, totalling approximately 200 kg, provided by Bursa Malaysia for use in the community garden of PPR Seri Alam.
These contributions are a part of Bursa Malaysia’s re.FOOD programme, its flagship initiative aimed at managing food waste responsibly. The programme encompasses donating edible food to B40 communities and transforming non-edible excess food waste into compost for community gardens within B40 areas, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to supporting the community and reducing landfill waste.
In 2023, through the re.FOOD initiative, Bursa Malaysia successfully distributed over 7,400
kg of food to the underprivileged communities across the country, including the Orang
Asli communities. The initiative also included contributions of more than 1,500 kg of
compost, generated from over 6,000 kg of food waste to community gardens in Klang
Valley and across several states in Malaysia and neighbouring states.
Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Chairman of Bursa Malaysia, expressed his sentiments on the
occasion, “Alhamdulillah, we are deeply fortunate to share our blessings in this holy month
with the community, particularly the residents of PPR Seri Alam. It brings me great
pleasure to see our collaboration with not just our NGO partner MyFundAction, but also
our public listed company (“PLC”) partner, F&N, setting a positive example for other PLCs.
This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to both community support and
environmental stewardship.”
His Highness, Tengku Syarif Bendahara Perlis Syed Badarudin Jamalullail Ibni Almarhum
Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, Chairman of F&N, Dato’ Raffiq Md Ariff, Managing Director,
