More than 3,500 participants attend inaugural GSC x Air Selangor Hydro Run
Kuala Lumpur, 26 November 2022 – Building on the excitement of Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC)’s annual Popcorn Walk of previous years, GSC and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn. Bhd. (Air Selangor) is proud to conclude the inaugural GSC x Air Selangor Hydro Run last Saturday in high spirits with more than 3,500 excited participants – comprising families, groups of friends, and individuals of all ages – coming together to take part in the day’s festivities. The GSC x Air Selangor Hydro Run is presented by Air Selangor, in collaboration with Mechamato’s official movie partners Astro Shaw and Monsta, official venue partner IOI City Mall Putrajaya, and sponsors Applecrumby, McCain and Federal Flour Mills (FFM).
Like previous iterations of GSC’s Popcorn Walk, the GSC x Air Selangor Hydro Run aims to get the public in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya, especially movie-goers, to move and stay active together, while bonding over the love for popcorn and animated films. This year’s instalment took place in IOI City Mall Putrajaya, offering participants the opportunity to a 5KM walk or 10KM fun run route around the vicinity.
As part of the route, runners were able to experience a variety of exciting pit stops including a Water & Wind Tunnel, Bubble Attack Zone, and Mechamato World, as well as enjoy their favourite cinema popcorn along the way. More than that, the GSC x Air Selangor Hydro Run also saw mascot appearances featuring popular Mechamato and BoBoiBoy characters, as well as mini-games, giveaways, and lucky draws for attendees to take part in. For the hungry, there was also a wide selection of food to whet different appetites.

In addition to the Hydro Run, GSC also hosted the inaugural GSC x Air Selangor Play Fest located in the East Wing of IOI City Mall Putrajaya. Presented by Air Selangor, in collaboration with Astro Shaw and Monsta, together with sponsorship partner, Family Guard, the festival is packed with exciting activities for the whole family including a colouring session, Mechamato DIY workshop, and carnival games. GSC x Air Selangor Hydro Run runners who attended the Play Fest could even redeem for free exclusive Mechamato Mechabattle trading cards – the first-of-its-kind in Malaysia. Play Fest is also an opportunity for Malaysians to contribute to two social causes undertaken by Air Selangor for the betterment of the community.

“In addition to Hydro Run, we also encourage the public to pledge their support to a meaningful cause of their choice through Play Fest by contributing to water conservation and welfare efforts made by NGOs such as Friends of Rivers Malaysia and the National Kidney Foundation Malaysia,” he added.
As part of the Play Fest, Family Guard also offered special promotions with up to 30% off on selected products. With purchases of more than RM20 and above, shoppers can also get a free 155ml Family Guard Disinfectant Spray. Additionally, Family Guard also hosted a Q&A contest for attendees to win American Tourister luggage sets.
Hydro Run was first held by Air Selangor in 2021 where it was done virtually with a total of 5,000 participants. The event managed to raise RM50,000 in funds that were donated to Friends of River Malaysia in support of its water conservation efforts.
