Osteoporosis Awareness Month initiative brings clinic-based screening closer to families nationwide, with activities spanning Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak.
KUALA LUMPUR, 18 May 2026 — BREGO Life Sciences will kick off BREGO Cares 2026: Stronger Bones, Better Health, a community bone health screening initiative that will bring earlier assessment closer to where Malaysians already seek routine care, primary care clinics, through the rollout of VeriOsteo OP, an AI-assisted bone mineral density screening software. In conjunction with Osteoporosis Awareness Month, the programme will run from May to June 2026 and is planned to reach communities across Klang Valley, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Pahang, Johor, Terengganu and Kelantan, as well as Sabah and Sarawak, bringing earlier bone health assessment closer to communities beyond major city centres.
Osteoporosis is often called a “silent disease” because bone loss can progress without symptoms until a fracture occurs. Globally, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 are at risk of osteoporotic fractures in their lifetime. While DEXA scans remain the gold standard for diagnosis, these services in Malaysia are still largely concentrated in major hospitals and specialist centres, making early screening less accessible for many communities.

A Malaysian survey of primary care physicians found that only 27.7% actively practised osteoporosis screening, with 90.6% citing limited access to bone mineral densitometry (such as DEXA) as a key barrier. BREGO Cares responds to this gap by testing how AI-assisted screening can bring earlier risk assessment closer to primary care. By leveraging existing X-ray capability in clinics, the approach reduces reliance on specialist referrals and separate appointments—making preventive bone health checks more feasible within routine care.
“In primary care, we often only discover bone health issues after a fall or fracture,” said Dr. Tan Cheng Lu, General Practitioner at O2 Klinik Sri Petaling. “If we can make screening more accessible at the clinic level, we can start the conversation earlier and guide patients on what to do next, before serious complications happen.”
Danny Wong, Founder of BREGO Life Sciences shared “BREGO Cares is our commitment to improving access to preventive healthcare through innovative and accessible solutions, especially where early screening gaps still exist. For bone health, the challenge has never been awareness alone, it has been access. This initiative is designed to close that gap by enabling earlier screening in neighbourhood clinics.”
