Kuala Lumpur, 27 June 2023 – It’s going to be a wild ride! The Hot Wheels Legends Tour is back in Malaysia for its fourth instalment with an exciting new development! For the first time ever, Malaysian custom car enthusiasts will have their entries judged live by Global Hot Wheels Lead Packaging Designer, Matt Gabe, at the 12th Art of Speed 2023. Malaysia is one of the event stops along the Legends Tour – a global search for a custom vehicle worthy of being reimagined as a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels die-cast vehicle available for sale in more than 150 countries worldwide. Malaysia, this is your chance!
For the first time since it hit our shores, instead of being held online, the Malaysian leg of the 2023 Hot Wheels Legends Tour will take place and be judged live on ground at Art of Speed, MAEPS Serdang. Malaysian hopefuls can register for free now here and drive their cars to the Art of Speed event at 9am on Sunday, 30 July 2023. Live judging will occur from 11am – 1pm.
On the same day, the judges will select the Top 10 and announce one custom build as the Malaysian winner that will go on to represent Malaysia at the Global Semi-Finals taking place virtually in November 2023. The Malaysian winner will join other winners from the Asia Pacific region for a chance to be voted Regional Fan Favourite and see their custom design transformed into a one-of-a-kind die-cast vehicle.
The competition will be judged by Global Hot Wheels Lead Packaging Designer, Matt Gabe, as well as guest judges Alec Pender and Dino Dalle Carbonare, Speedhunters contributors who have decades of experience covering all things custom in the automotive industry; Aulia Rahman, and founder of Malaysia’s own Galeri Kereta; and Tengku Djan, our homegrown Prince of Drift, who will be returning as the fourth time judge for Legends Tour.
Each submission will be judged on authenticity, how closely the build embodies the Hot Wheels spirit; creativity, how well the design stands out from the rest; and garage spirit, for how well the design exemplifies the attitude of “built not bought”.
This year, Hot Wheels will have its biggest showing to date with three unique spaces within Art of Speed over two days: 29th – 30th July. Hall A will be the home of the Hot Wheels x Proton collaboration showcase and where collectors can make their Hot Wheels purchases. Hall B is where the first ever Hot Wheels Collectors Convention in Southeast Asia will take place – fans can look forward to meet and greet with Hot Wheels designer, discussions about Hot Wheels cars through the decades, live auctions, a customised die-cast competition, Hot Wheels race, showcases, and activities conducted by Hot Wheels Skate School. The outdoor VIP parking area is where the entries of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour can be found and admired.
The Hot Wheels Legends Tour first kicked off in 2018 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the brand. It began as a series of 15 car shows across Walmart locations around the US but increasing demand and enthusiasm over the years has seen it grow internationally. This year’s Legends Tour will stop in participating countries spanning five continents. Malaysian motorheads can join their peers from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, the Philippines and many more in an exciting race to be crowned the next Hot Wheels Legends Tour winner!
In celebration of all things car culture, consumers can look forward to limited edition Hot Wheels Legends Tour products at the event. Fans can customise apparel, tote bags, bottles, and mugs, as well as get their hands on limited edition Legends Tour collector cars.
