MOSQUE OPEN DAY ITM 2024 WELCOMES COMMUNITIES TO EXPLORE FAMILY-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES AND ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE

PUTRAJAYA, 4 SEPTEMBER 2024 – In celebration of the richness and uniqueness of Malaysia’s architectural heritage during the Islamic Tourism Month 2024 (ITM 2024), the Mosque Open Day will be held at selected locations nationwide.

This event invites visitors of all races to delve into the architectural splendor of Malaysian mosques while reflecting on the heritage and artistry that form the spiritual landmarks of the multicultural nation.

Commencing from 6 to 28 September, the Mosque Open Day will be progressively held at several iconic mosques across Malaysia, allowing visitors and the public to appreciate the unique designs, cultural symbolism, and historical significance of each mosque, some of which have stood for centuries.

The full schedule for the Mosque Open Day in conjunction with ITM 2024 is as follows:
● Masjid Sendayan, Negeri Sembilan | 6 September | 5pm,
● Masjid Ulul Albab, Terengganu | 7 September | 10am – 4pm,
● Masjid Putra, Putrajaya | 15 September | 10am – 4pm,
● Masjid Sultan Idris Shah II, Perak | 19-21 September | 9am – 9pm,
● Masjid Negara, Kuala Lumpur | 28 September | 9am – 12.30pm, and
● Masjid Diraja Ala’eddin, Selangor | 28 September |7.30am – 2pm.

Visitors to the Mosque Open Day will be welcomed with a variety of activities including Ceramah Perdana, exhibitions by government agencies, Sukan Rakyat, blood donation campaigns, and guided tours that narrate the stories behind the stunning architecture spanning various states in Malaysia. Various competitions such as the kompang and calligraphy (khat) contests will also be open to the public.

Running from 16 August to 30 September, ITM 2024 offers a series of events throughout the month and tourism packages for the public, tourists, industry players, and entrepreneurs, providing a rich and unique Islamic tourism experience in Malaysia.

His Royal Highness the Regent of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, graciously officiated the early launch of ITM 2024 on 2 August, hosted by Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) – an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) – aimed at invigorating the Muslim-friendly tourism sector in the country.

Visitors of the Mosque Open Day also stand a chance to win prizes worth RM50,000 by participating in the ITM 2024 TikTok Challenge and sharing their experiences exploring the magnificent heritage and architecture of mosques in Malaysia. For more information, please visit www.itm.itc.gov.my
