foodpanda Rewards Top Riders with a RM1,500 Supermarket Sweep Challenge in MYDIN

foodpanda’s exhilarating event challenges top performing riders to race through MYDIN aisles and fill their carts with groceries and items in three minutes

Kuala Lumpur, June 23, 2023 — If you are a child of the 80s, you would have watched
Supermarket Sweep, the popular American TV game show where contestants race down the supermarket aisles to fill their trolleys with specific items.

foodpanda, one of Malaysia’s leading food and grocery delivery platforms, came together
with MYDIN to show some love and appreciation to the top performing riders, holding its
own ‘Supermarket Sweep’ simultaneously at four MYDIN outlets across the country just for
them.

25 of the very best foodpanda riders from all states – carefully selected based on their
exceptional performance and tenure – took part in the Rider Supermarket Sweep, which were held in MYDIN, Malaysia’s largest homegrown Halal hypermarket and retail chain.

Armed with an empty trolley, RM1,500 in shopping allowance and a clock counting down three minutes, each rider scrambled through the aisles at the MYDIN outlets in Subang Jaya, Bukit Mertajam, Johor Bahru and Kuching after the store’s usual operating hours. They had the entire hypermarket to themselves as a reward for their outstanding service in delivering food and other conveniences to foodpanda customers.

foodpanda Malaysia’s CEO, Sayantan Das, shared his enthusiasm for the event. “At
foodpanda, we are constantly looking for ways to engage and reward our exceptional riders. The Rider Supermarket Sweep was designed to celebrate our riders’ hard work and
dedication with a little bit of fun. It was truly a one-of-a-kind adventure that showcased their skills, speed, and enthusiasm. By celebrating the hard work and dedication of foodpanda riders, the Rider Supermarket Sweep adds an exciting twist to the food delivery industry. At the same time, we are grateful to MYDIN for their support in making this event a grand success,” he commented.

foodpanda rider, Abdul Qahhar bin Abdul Razak, 28 said, “Initially, I was shocked when I was chosen for this event because I was unaware of my performance so I am extremely grateful for this recognition. When I got to know that electronic appliances such as televisions and smartphones were not allowed to be taken, I focused on filling my cart with items that would last me a few months like baby diapers, rice, and cooking oil during the three-minute challenge,” he said. “My advice to fellow riders is to do your job properly and efficiently. It’s easy, and if you perform well, you will be able to earn more. Always keep the quality of your work in check and give your best.”

foodpanda rider Wong Wei Sheng, 36 said: “I feel extremely grateful and honoured to have
been selected for the game. Since joining in November 2020 during the Movement Control
Order (MCO), I’ve valued the flexibility and weekly payments that provide a consistent
income, whether I’m working full-time or part-time. When I found out I was chosen, I was
shocked yet proud to be recognized as one of the top-performing riders with the longest
tenure. During the game, with just three minutes, I focused on grabbing snacks, rice, and
cooking oil. Although I wished for more time, I was delighted to share these items with my
family. It was an incredible experience, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring joy to my loved ones through food. Being part of the foodpanda family has been truly rewarding!”

On top of being offered flexible work timing tailored to their lifestyles, both riders confirmed that being a delivery partner for foodpanda is a great option to generate a constant flow of income as long as you’re putting in the hard work to get there.

The event also garnered excitement and support from MYDIN, as expressed by their Manager of Marketing & Brand Communication Division, Gurubaran Ballalie.

“We believe in fostering partnerships that benefit our customers, and we are grateful to
foodpanda for providing us a platform to reach greater heights. Being able to have Mydin
goods delivered right to our customers’ doorsteps via foodpanda has created an
unforgettable shopping experience for our customers. In return, we wanted to honour our
partnership by providing foodpanda a platform to produce a Malaysian version of the
Supermarket Sweep game show catered to foodpanda riders. Witnessing their energy and
enthusiasm while they raced through our aisles was an incredible opportunity!” he said.
