KUALA LUMPUR, 12 April 2023 — Attention all secondary school students and teachers – the annual ‘DIY Made Simple’ competition is now inviting entries for the 2023 edition.
This year’s theme, ‘Repurposing Waste, Countering Cost of Living’, calls for students to find ways to improve their school facilities by incorporating methods to reuse, reduce, recycle, and upcycling of waste materials whilst tackling the high cost of living amongst the public. Additionally, the competition also seeks to highlight how such measures integrate the principles of ESG [Environmental, Social and Governance], with an emphasis on the environment.
This annual do-it-yourself [DIY] competition is jointly organised by Malaysia’s largest home improvement retailer MR D.I.Y. Group (M) Bhd [MR D.I.Y.], and Universiti Malaya[UM]’s Community Engagement Centre [UMCares] and Faculty of Built Environment, with the support of the Ministry of Education [MOE]’s Sports, Co-Curriculum, and Arts Division.
Details of how to enter are available at https://www.mrdiy.com/mrdiy-group-x-universiti-malaya-diy-made-simple-2023
Interested schools have until 20 May 2023 to submit their entries. A panel of judges comprising representatives from Universiti Malaya (UM), MR D.I.Y., and the MOE will evaluate these submissions and shortlist sixteen schools. The shortlisted schools will work on their projects with lecturers from UM’s Faculty of Built Environment to transform their ideas into reality between 1 June – 31 August 2023. The evaluation phase will take place in September 2023 where the school students will present their finalised projects to the judges, and the winners will be announced in a Grand Finale in the same month.
